WORK EXPERIENCE

 

Network Engineer II 12/2012 - Present Cox Communications – Atlanta, GA.

•          Direct point of contact for Cox’s Platinum level Business Customers (EWAN) to receive engineering level support for network troubles

•          Monitor Customer Network Elements via SNMP and network monitoring tools (Netcool and Alcatel-Lucent Platforms)

•          Open, track, execute, follow up, and resolve Customer and Network trouble tickets

•          Troubleshoot and resolve issues on the C4 DWDM Network optical circuit problems, commercial customer connectivity issues, hardware problems, etc.

•          Instruct field personnel on problem resolution.

•          Track Trouble Tickets and follow-up on all potentially customer service affecting events.

Provide problem solving for customers WAN/LAN data/voice MPLS and VPN circuits. Wide Area Network Engineer 02/04-04/04 DSD Labs Hampton, VA.

Responsible for configuring, installing and maintaining IDNX / Promina network with speeds up to OC3 for the Air Combat Command Enterprise Network.  Used HP Openview monitoring systems to track all scheduled and unscheduled network outages. Working with various Promina Series (200,400,800) systems maintaining two types of Cisco Routers (7000 and 2500 series) and ForeView system ATM switches (ASX-1200 and ASX-200BX).  Coordinated with commercial vendors (Bell Atlantic, GTE, MCI, US West, Electra, etc) and providers for maintenance.

Network Engineer II 10/00-02/04 MCI World Com Rockville, MD.

Performed network management and fault isolations for the Defense Information System Agency Network (DISN).  Responsibility include administering a 25 node Sonet network of Tellabs Titan 5500 bandwidth manager switches which provides backbone T1 access for DISN.  In addition, 12 Nortel’s DMS-100 Super Nodes (PBX) were utilized. Used Remedy, Foreview and HP Openview monitoring systems to track all scheduled and unscheduled network outages perform troubleshooting isolation via Cerjac testing equipment for T1 related issues.  Issued and modified performance management commands via Titans 5500 for circuit and network status. Test and coordinate with the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) and field techs (Verizon, Lucent, Quest) to ensure equipment and circuit components CSU/DSU/NIU and functional and operational.

 

Network Design Engineer 12/99-10/00 GTE Reston, VA. 

Provided network communications support to the Defense Information Systems Agency’s classified and unclassified ATM Wide Area Networks by thoroughly troubleshooting and coordinating corrective actions with commercial, governmental and military telecommunications facilities.  Performed intrusive and non-intrusive tests to isolate or identify the individual network elements causing a problem and facilitated repair and verification; upgraded software and hardware required for new releases and operational fixes.  TCP/IP, LAN Emulation, Fore IP, Classical IP, ATM, for the World Wide Web utilized on a daily basis. Used Remedy to track all scheduled and unscheduled network outages.

 

Network Controller 11/98-12/99 GTE Pentagon Washington DC

Monitored and controlled Defense Information Systems Agency’s SIPRNET network backbone devices (Cisco Routers), the Joint Staff’s Global Command and Control System (GCCS) and Global Command and Control System Top Secret (GCCS-T). Performed fault isolation and troubleshooting on all network backbone entities.  Resolved network user problems, maintained positive customer relations.  TCP/IP, BGP, EIGRP, LAN Emulation, Fore IP, Classical IP, FTP, TELNET, Trace routs, ping test and Intrusion detection systems. Used Remedy, Foreview and HP Open view monitoring systems to track all scheduled and unscheduled network outages.   Opened, updated and closed trouble tickets on network and customer related problems.  Identified on-screen indicators of network entities/problems.  Tested variety of common causes of network failure or degradations; used commands and procedures specific to network management.  Answered customer calls; assisted customers over the telephone; worked unusual or difficult problems.

Provided direct technical and logistics support and issue resolution to the Defense Information Systems Agency in fielding a major telecommunications upgrade on the Defense Information System Network.
